Jim Morgan (Baylor) has been selected as the 2010 National Head Coach of the Year by the National Wrestling Coaches Association. Morgan, who retired this year after almost 50 years of coaching, had an overall record of 549-84-1 at Baylor. Congratulations to Coach Morgan on an amazing honor!
Also being honored by the NWCA was Cameron Croy of Brentwood. Croy, who captured his 3rd state title in 2010, was selected as the Region 3 wrestler of the year.
“Former Iowa wrestler Brent Metcalf scored a second-round technical fall to beat Bubba Jenkins 2-0, 6-0 in the 66-kilogram freestyle match at the Beat the Streets Gala on Thursday aboard the USS Intrepid in New York City. Metcalf, a two-time national champ, met former Penn State star Jenkins four times in college. Metcalf won all four matches.”
Caldwell was supposed to face Metcalf tomorrow in a much anticipated rematch, but reinjured his shoulder during training. Kyle Dake, Cornell’s 141 True Freshman NCAA champion at last years tournament, has stepped in to replace him. Cornell’s Dake was impressive at the tournament, but can he handle going up a weight-class to face Iowa’s Metcalf? We will find out tomorrow night!
Well, this is actually the 3rd rematch, but hey, who is counting. This one should be good. They will be wrestling freestyle, which makes it even more exciting. Caldwell is coming back from shoulder surgery, that put him out for the 2009-2010 season. Hopefully he is fully healed. If not, I doubt this will be much of a match.
Metcalf vs Caldwell will be the main event of a seven match line-up, including names like Palmer, Herbert, Askren, and many more. Oh yeah, and Royce Alger will be providing entertainment. That will be interesting.

Kolat.com has a live wrestling clinic every week that you can watch for free. The clinic this week covered “putting the switch, change over, hip heist, and stand-up together from the bottom” and was great.
