The movie Warrior has been getting a lot of hype lately. Believe the hype, it is a great film. Tom Hardy, Nick Nolte, and Joel Edgerton have all put together an inspirational movie, filled with some emotional scenes.

The story quoted below is from the official Warrior website:

Haunted by a tragic past, Marine Tommy Conlon (Hardy) returns home for the first time in fourteen years to enlist the help of his father (Nick Nolte) to train for Sparta, the biggest winner-takes-all event in mixed martial arts history. A former wrestling prodigy, Tommy blazes a path toward the championship while his brother, Brendan (Edgerton), an ex-fighter-turned teacher, returns to the ring in a desperate bid to save his family from financial ruin. But when Brendan’s unlikely, underdog rise sets him on a collision course with the unstoppable Tommy, the two brothers must finally confront each other and the forces that pulled them apart, facing off in the most soaring, soul stirring, and unforgettable climax that must be seen to be believed.

Nolte has never had a problem putting in an amazing performance, but this role just seemed perfect for him. In the film, he plays a war veteran battling alcoholism, hoping to gain the forgiveness of his sons for the sins of his past. Tom Hardy, who plays youngest son Tommy, continues his reign as rising box office star, while Joel Edgerton puts in an equally strong performance as Tommy’s older brother.

Tommy and Brendon are former champion wrestlers, and their skills show up in the ring. They both train hard, focused and driven towards their goals.

Even the supporting cast did well. Frank Grillo plays Frank Campana, Brendon’s friend and trainer, who owns a top MMA gym in the area. He motivates his guys to work hard and win.

Kurt Angle makes a strong cameo as the unbeatable Russian Koba. The guy is scary and in unbelievable shape.

The movie is a perfect to see before the season starts. It will motivate you to set some lofty goals and believe in your ability to achieve them. Go watch it when you can and leave a comment with what you think!

It is an amazing story of a young man that excelled despite a disability that would seem to make a career in wrestling implausible. He is currently a motivational speaker and recently started a social networking website.

Some quotes from Rohan about the sport of wrestling:

You can hear Brands yell “score to a score”, meaning that they shouldn’t just stop with a takedown. The wrestler needs to go directly into another scoring combination while there is still time. This just shows the mentality of a champion wrestlers, which is to never stop wrestling and scoring until the final whistle blows!

One of my wrestlers sent this over to me today. It is a video done by <a href://www.flowrestling.org/" target="_blank">flowrestling on the mental aspect of wrestling and focuses on some the greatest minds in the country at Harvard. I thought there were some great points to take away from this in training your mind and making yourself mentally tough.

Harvard head coach Jay Weiss talks about how his team prepares to win, using visualization and writing out reasons they should succeed and obstacles that stand in their way. I like how the video starts off with a few of the most successful wrestlers/coaches discussing the percentage the mind plays in the sport of wrestling.
