Wrestling Clip of the Week – Short Time Drill from Flowrestling

Posted on December 4, 2009 by Jarrod RuezNo Comments

This clip shows Brands leading his team in a ’short time’ drill. The scenario is that both guys are considered behind in points and they have a short time (looks like about 15-20 seconds) to score.

You can hear Brands yell “score to a score”, meaning that they shouldn’t just stop with a takedown. The wrestler needs to go directly into another scoring combination while there is still time. This just shows the mentality of a champion wrestlers, which is to never stop wrestling and scoring until the final whistle blows!

Harvard wrestling coach discusses the mental aspect of wrestling

Posted on November 9, 2009 by Jarrod RuezNo Comments

One of my wrestlers sent this over to me today.  It is a video done by flowrestling on the mental aspect of wrestling and focuses on some the greatest minds in the country at Harvard.  I thought there were some great points to take away from this in training your mind and making yourself mentally tough.

Harvard head coach Jay Weiss talks about how his team prepares to win, using visualization and writing out reasons they should succeed and obstacles that stand in their way. I like how the video starts off with a few of the most successful wrestlers/coaches discussing the percentage the mind plays in the sport of wrestling.
